29 Palms Annual Events & Activities Calendar

The City of Twentynine Palms, California has many exciting events year round. Local annual events have been held for decades, and include art and music festivals, car shows and motorcycle racing, historical festivals and events, and programs in the Joshua Tree National Park.

Joshua Tree National Park provides the setting for many local events, including the Joshua Tree National Park Art Festival and the Joshua Tree Music Festival. Others take place in the various art galleries and studios located throughout the town, and still others, like the Concert in the Park series and Movies in the Park series, take place at Luckie Park.

Parade of Homes

The Parade of Homes occurs annually on Presidents Day weekend in February. It is held to benefit Reach Out Morongo Basin, the neighbors-helping-neighbors program that started in Twentynine Palms and expanded toughout the Morongo Basin. Joshua Tree National Park Art Festival

Every April at the Oasis Visitor Center, the Joshua Tree National Park Association sponsors the Joshua Tree National Park Art Festival. Over 20 artists have exhibits here that include painting, sculpture, photography, ceramics, and jewelry. The artists share a love for Joshua Tree National Park that is reflected in their work, and the event is free and open to the public. The Members Show, an annual judged exhibition by members of the Twentynine Palms Artists’ Guild, is occurs during the month of April. More than 60 works of art are featured, including watercolors, oil/acrylic paintings, photography, collage, and mixed media.

Hilltoppers Motorcycle Wild West Grand Prix

29 Palms Motorsports Arena, Twentynine Palms, CA
The annual Hilltoppers Motorcycle Wild West Gran Prix offers motorcycle-racing fun for the whole family on the first weekend of April. The race is the third race of the Big 6 Gran Prix series and is located at the 29 Palms Motorsports Arena east of town on 29 Palms Highway. Over 1300 riders participate in the event, which includes Kids and Pee-Wee racing, Vintage, Classic, and a Pro Team race with a minimum $3000 purse.

Spring Concert Series

Pioneertown Wild West Encampment

Pioneertown holds its annual Wild west encampment in mid-May. This is a living history encampment open to the public. The Frontier Army of the west will be camped at Pioneertown and are dressed in Civil War uniforms. They will perform mock battles and Gatling gun demonstrations along with a small battle with Confederate bushwhackers. Other performances will be life on the frontier of the 1870’s using horses and gunfire. Free vendor spaces.

Joshua Tree Music Festival

Street Fair and Car Show

The annual Twentynine Palms Street Fair and Car Show is held the first weekend in June and features classic and custom cars and motorcycles competing in a “People’s Choice” contest. Activities include rock climbing, airbrush tattoos and face paintings. Vendors line the street and downtown merchants extend business hours for your shopping and dining pleasure. Snowcones and old fashioned sodas are available and local radio station Z107.7 provides music with a live, remote broadcast.

Commemoration Day Ceremony

Charlie’s High Desert Polaroid Pictorial III

Clean Air Clear Stars – Global Cooling Benefit Music Festival

Twentynine Palms’ historic Pioneer Days celebration in October each year encompasses nearly a dozen separate events including a wonderful hometown Pioneer Days Parade, an Honorary Judge & Sheriff contest, and activities in Luckie Park including a pet parade, arm wrestling tournament, carnival midway, children’s activities, concerts, community booths, vendors, and more. Most events are free to spectators, courtesy of sponsorships by local merchants. Other traditional events during Pioneer Days weekend include a Firefighter’s Pancake Breakfast, TPHS Alumni BBQ, Twentynine Palms Art Gallery Chili Dinner, and an Old Timer’s Reunion at the Old Schoolhouse Museum. Hwy 62 Art Tours (Open Studio Art Tours)

Covers 50 miles along Highway 62
The Hwy 62 Art Tours (formerly Open Studio Art Tours) is held each year in October, sponsored by the Morongo Basin Cultural Arts Council (MBCAC) and held in conjunction with National Arts & Humanities Month. The 10-day event features cultural activities and two weekends of self-guided tours of the art studios, galleries, and exhibits of more than 100 desert artists in the Morongo Basin. Gallery receptions, art shows, historical exhibits, theatre productions, special events and live music at a variety of venues are also presented throughout the region during the two weekends.

The Sportsmans Club’s Annual Gem, Mineral, and Craft Show is held at the Sportsmans Club in Joshua Tree, California. A fascinating show where you can buy a geode, and have it cut open while you watch. There will be a raffle prize drawing every half hour throughout the show, plus rocks for kids, grab bags, game booths, and a wheel of fortune for kids at which everyone wins on every spin. Weed Show

The Weed Show is held the first full weekend in November at the Old Schoolhouse Museum. It is one of Twentynine Palms’ oldest and most unique artistic traditions. This annual display features artistic arrangements of indigenous desert vegetation as well as found objects both natural and man-made – a desert rendition of the traditional concept of floral display. Each show follows a specific theme. Entries are judged on subject matter, use of desert vegetation, use of accessories, artistic composition and originality. Awards are granted in nine categories, with a “People’s Choice” award to be decided by visitors to the exhibition. It is one of Twentynine Palms most characteristic events. The Weed Show highlights the beauty of the local flora and the skill of our town’s artisans, and the history and culture of Twentynine Palms itself.
